Jason Park has ambitions to create comic books about heroes. Little does he know that he might soon become one himself. 3.5 stars, so I'm rounding up.
I love Asian folklore, so I was really happy to see another book out that features nine tale foxes, and goblins. The concept of the book is intriguing. It did leave me a bit disappointed due to some technical issues with the prose, and styling. (The main one being the frequent italics of kumiho and dokkaebi, and the repeated reminders that a character was a nine tailed fox/kumiho or goblin/dokkaebi.)
This is an engaging read from start to finish. It's fast paced and full of energy. The characters are interesting and likeable with fully fleshed out motivations. The system of magic seems consistent and well developed in this first installment and has a realistic feel. At times I found it difficult to keep track of the characters when they were referred to by their type rather than by name; this was especially true with the title character and her ghosts. The IM conversation between Jason and his friend feels little out of place in the story at this point because it doesn't play a role in the plot, but that may be coming in part two of the saga. I love the spirit world created in this book and only wish for more detailed descriptions of the sights, sounds and smells of the different districts. I can't wait to read about the court and the shadow kingdom! I also look forward to more training with the book of demons. Don't make us wait to long for part two-I can't wait to see what happens next! This is a perfect combination of urban fantasy with a hint of an epic.

This is definitely a page-turner, and delves into Korean folklore and myth -- in addition to having a fun and engaging tone, and a welcome sassiness. Can't wait to read the next installments!
I really enjoyed this first episode. I think it really sets up a nice foundation for the rest of the series and I can't wait to pick it up!
I loved this. Could not stop reading once I started. A great storyteller telling a fun and original story. I usually get my fantasy fix through graphic novels and comics rather than fiction, but this book pulls you in and takes you on a wild ride of exhilarating action and interesting characters. I wasn't familiar with the mythology prior to reading, but I definitely know my gwishin from my dokkaebi now, and I can't wait for more of this.
