I love this authors writing. The characters have depth and growth. The story lines are very convincing. You can feel what the characters feel and they mystery is there to keep you on the edge. I can't wait for the next book. The only reason this was not five stars was the end. There is a cliffhanger, but this is a long story and a family series.Overview. Might have spoilers. Sophie is a performing artist. She's into dancing, drama, singing and acting. She puts it all out there and only does minimal for her other classes. So when she shows up late again to her econ class, the TA Luke Hawthorne tells her she has more potential and should focus on an education too. She is mad at "professor Sexy Pants". Luke even tryst to apologize for his behavior through an email. Sophie forwards the email to her best friend Danny, but Danny doesn't get it. Instead, professor Sexy Pants does and calls it to her attention while out at a public bar. But soon they find themselves lip locked in the bathroom. If Danny had not been in trouble, they would have went too far. End of the term they go their ways for a few weeks before summer classes start. But when Sophie shows up at the lake house to see her mom, she is shocked to know her mom was dating John. John has 3 sons who show up; Cash, Jimmy, And Luke aka professor Sexy Pants. They keep their relationship under wraps. That is until her mom decides that she was going to sale their child home and move in with John. Sophie and Luke storm off, Maddie, Sophie's sister and Cash rush off too. Everyone is fighting. (No reference to little sis Anna and Jimmy and what happens to them during the family fight). Madrid decides to be the Big Sis and call her sister Sophie and tell her about her and Cash and ask what happened to her and Luke. But will the future work for the 4of them when they meet up? Will they be able to resolve the family issue or will there be more surprises?

I'm really trying to love this series, but after each book it's like it's missing something. On to the next one.

I like these story's but I wish they where all done so you could read one right after the other and not lose the story. Don't read this book if you haven't read the first one you won't know the story. So enjoy the read ! !

I have to say that I've read and enjoyed many of Colleen's books and this one doesn't disappoint. I enjoyed the characters, Sophie and Luke, and their personal struggle with the taboo of their relationship as it develops. This book had me laughing one minute and shedding tears the next. I'm not often moved by many authors, so it was interesting that I was so moved by the plight of these characters.
I must say that I love these two story the most this is the book I started with that has me going back reading all three siblings stories.
Sophie and Luke met at college when he was her T.A. and she was still trying to get her herself together by getting over her feeling from when her dad died. As luke have pent up bad emotions from home that he had yet to find a reason to deal with.
On summer break what they don't know is that things are abut to take them on a ride that they're not really ready for but soon would need to be.
I was so disappointed with the first book of this series, but I had purchased that book AND this book at the same time, so I was committed to reading and finishing this book. That's how much I love this author...(to purchase her books without hesitation). Well, it's taught me a lesson..."no matter how much you love the author...read the reviews before purchasing". Although I've gotta say this story was an extreme improvement from the first Stepbrother story...Stepbrother Bastard (The Hawthorne Brothers Book 1) HUGE improvement BUT the same story...different brother...different sister. Same story, but told better.
Lukas Hawthorne is a big, muscular and handsome hottie with dark chestnut hair and intense green eyes. He's a legendary athlete and womanizer at Sheridan College. He's living the life his father has planned for him. Luke deeply resents his father for forcing this academic life upon him.
Sophie Porter has the lithe shape of a dancer...at 21 y/o, Sophie is a junior in studying dance and drama. She's gorgeous with her long caramel blond hair and golden flecked blue eyes. She enjoys a passionate tryst now and then...rather than a long term committed relationship (how boring). Sophie doesn't do emotional investments. And she's set her sights on Lukas Hawthorne.
This was an easy story to read...it followed the usual formula for a romance story...two people attracted to each other with a bit of drama keeping them apart. Drama they must overcome. The downside to this story is the believability. It's not believable. What are the odds of the person you're attracted to ending up at the same family reunion you're going to....in another state? And then the problem they're facing is contrived. And like the first book...there's no conclusion. Yep, cliffhanger....again. I don't usually mind cliffhangers per se...but the story's gotta be good. There's not enough in this story to make me wanna find out what happens to our protagonists...or Cash & Maddie from book #1. I'm done with this series...
